How to get the most out of a tutor

  • Posted on November 21, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Lot of people get tutors when they are struggling with different subjects. What people need to learn is how to take full advantage of the tutors that they have. Some people spend the money on the tutor, but they don’t get the full advantage of the sessions. If you are planning to hire a tutor you need to know what areas you are weak in. Look for reputable services like tutorspree to find the right tutor for you. Some people assume that they know how to do certain things until they are put to the test. Get a practice test first. This way you will know what approach is not working.

The tutor is going to ask you what you want help with. They will not know. You will have tell the tutor your methods and why you use them. It is always a good idea to know how you got the answers. It is not just enough to get the answers right. You must also know the methods that you are choosing to make your decisions.

The tutor is there to help, but you have to be honest. Don’t be embarrassed about not knowing something. It is much better to be open and let the tutor know all of your problem areas. The tutor may have a couple of shortcuts, but you will not know if you don’t ask first. The thing that people must be aware of is that tutors – especially the ones that get paid to tutor – are experts on certain subjects. They would not even attempt to teach you if they did not believe they could convey the information to you. This is why you have to trust them. They are there to help you improve and remove your fears on learning certain subjects.

This is why it is very important to pay attention to what the tutor is doing. Don’t waste your time daydreaming while the tutor is instructing you. This can become a waste of your time and money. You should make every effort to pay attention to everything that is said. If school is too distracting, consider getting a home tutor. This is the only way that you will be able to ask questions about those things you do not know. If you are in a class it doesn’t hurt to look over the entire book. Sometimes this is the only way that you can anticipate what you will have problems with next. You can minimize the number of sessions if you ask questions.

How Tutors can Significantly increase your Teens IQ Level

  • Posted on November 14, 2012 at 7:10 pm

Intelligence quotient, or IQ scores are used throughout the lives of both children and adults to measure intelligence through testing. When used with children an IQ test is used to compare the intelligence of the child with their peers to be awarded a score that reflects their intelligence level. One on one tutoring in both individual subject areas and cognitive skills can increase the IQ level of a teen over a short period of time; in the same way environmental factors and reduced tutoring time can have a negative effect on the IQ level of children and teens.

For the majority of the 20th century it was believed a persons IQ level remained static from birth for the remainder of their lives; during the 1990s research into the human brain uncovered the fact the brain can grow and regenerate pathways between brain cells. Tutoring in cognitive skills, such as processing speeds and visual memory skills can stimulate the pathways making them shorter and faster at processing information; a second advantage to the regrowth of these pathways is the ability to process more information at a faster rate.

An average IQ score for teens is classed on the IQ scale as 100; through tutoring in various skills and subjects the IQ level of a teen can be increased by around 20 points over a short period of time. Tutoring to increase the IQ score requires all round learning skills to be learnt that are of greater assistance than simply learning facts and figures associated with a single academic subject area that is the usual course of tutoring. Unlike academic achievement tests an IQ test is difficult to study for through learning facts; instead techniques designed to increase the ability of the teen to comprehend and interpret data and theories are required.

Another interesting component of the IQ study has been traced back to both being online and offline tactics. The offline tactics show a dramatically high increase in student’s IQ whereas the online tactics show a lower but still significant increase as well. IQ has always been tied in with interacting with academic material. But this new find on interaction over a digital platform as formed some unique findings that it is still plausible to increase IQ in your teens if they are remotely learning from a San Diego tutor when your child is stationed

Most researchers and education experts agree it is difficult to determine the intelligence of a child or teen through the use of a single test. To gain a more rounded and complete idea of a teens intelligence level a series of short tests taken over a longer period of time are often administered in academic environments.

Children, Vitamins and Nutritional Supplements

  • Posted on September 11, 2012 at 3:01 pm

Getting your kids to eat what is good for them is not always easy. Eating on the go is a mainstay nowadays for parents with kids in extracurricular activities. To help busy moms and dads give their child that extra boost, many nutrition companies also make vitamins for children.

Two natural ways to provide nutrients for your child are smoothies and fresh juices. Adding spinach and cucumber to a green smoothie or carrots to juice provide extra vitamins in a quick and tasty drink. Juicers allow you to use whole apples or plums to obtain the most nutritional value, and now department stores carry juicers for an affordable price.

Vitamin supplements come in multiple varieties for any finicky child. Gummy bear vitamins are by far the most popular with children. Personal experience has suggested that many of the generic brands pass a child’s taste test over the more expensive name brand varieties. Chewable and liquid vitamins are other alternatives to the gummy vitamin. I haven’t known a child yet that didn’t like their chewable vitamin!

Vitamin supplements for children are no longer strictly for that extra dose of vitamin c. Many nutritional companies provide nutritional supplements for children that support brain development, help with ADD and calcium supplements for strong bones and teeth. Many natural health food stores also carry nutritional supplements to help children with sleeping problems, allergies, joint health and eye development.

Deciding what vitamins and nutritional supplements to give your child isn’t always easy. Always speak with a doctor to learn if the supplements you are giving your child do not interact with each other in a negative way. And only use supplements if there is a need; natural is always best. By adding vitamins and nutritional supplements to your child’s diet allows them an advantage for growing stronger, healthier and happier.

Tips for Taking Care of Your Lawn

  • Posted on May 11, 2012 at 8:38 pm

You’ve seen them – the neighbors with the oh-so-perfect lawns. Year after year, they proudly display lawns that are green, lush and just the right height. And then there are the rest of the neighbors, with lawns that refuse to green-up despite their best efforts. How can they, the green-grass challenged, have a lawn that will rival all others? If you are one of the less fortunate lawn owners, then pay attention – the secret to a lush lawn is to do the right things at the right time. What are those things? Let’s take a look at five things you can do to have the lawn of your dreams.

Start with the Soil

The foundation of a good lawn is the soil. Take a sample of your soil and have it tested. The results will let you know what you are dealing with and if you need to take any action to improve it. “How do I test my soil?” you might ask. Lawn and garden shops can provide do-it-yourself kits or you can have a professional lawn service test your soil for a fee.

Sow the Seeds

Once you have established a good soil foundation, the next step is to plant new seed. Planting new grass is easier than you might think, but make sure you are using a type of seed that grows well in your area. An easy way to get the scoop on what works best is to strike up a conversation with one of your lovely lawn neighbors. Compliment him (or her) on the lawn and ask a few questions. Most neighbors are glad to share a few tips when asked.

Fertilizer is Our Friend

After you have planted the new grass, the next step is to fertilize. Fertilizer provides your lawn with nutrients and helps the seed germinate faster. When fertilizing in the fall, be sure to use a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen. This will prepare the grass for winter and help it green-up in the spring. In the fall, the best time to do this is between September and October. In the spring, fertilize between April and June.

What about Water?

Now that we have the seed planted and fertilized, let’s move on to watering your new and improved lawn. You should water your lawn deeply early in the morning; this will allow the water to reach the roots. It is best to avoid watering at night. Grass that stays wet overnight is susceptible to mold and fungus.

Be a Master Mower

During the summer, you should leave your mower on its highest setting and always mow with a sharp blade; however, in the fall you can lower the blade to a height of 2 – 2 1/2 inches – any lower and you will risk damaging the grass.

The Lawn You Make is Equal to the Steps You Take

Okay, let’s review. First have your soil analyzed. Second, plant a grass seed that grows well in your area. Third, fertilize. Fourth, water early and water often. And lastly, get the height right when you mow. Follow these steps, and you’ll be on your way to becoming the newest member of the lush lawn club.
